Melissa Cowen is a swimmer from Auckland, New Zealand, who attended Rangitoto College before signing with the University of Florida for the fall of 2023.

University of Florida is a prominent public research university located in Gainesville, Florida. It is a member of the State University System of Florida, with its athletic program competing in Division I of the NCAA and in the Southeastern Conference. UF is affectionately known as the “Gator Nation.” With has a strong sports culture, with a highly successful football program and competitive teams in various other sports.

UF is renowned for its athletic facilities with incredible centres, such as the O’Connell Center Pool, which is home to UF’s swimming and diving teams. It includes an 8-lane Olympic-sized pool that can be divided into two 25-yard sections or two 25-meter sections.

The Southwest Recreation Center, often referred to as the “SW Rec,” is one of the major recreational facilities at the University of Florida (UF). It is located on UF’s campus and serves as a hub for fitness, wellness, and recreational activities for students, faculty, staff, and the university community.

Prior to Cowen’s move to Florida she already had an extremely impressive swimming resume as she is the current New Zealand Open record holder in both the 100 and 200m breast.
